Lots of folks across the United States are challenging books (Bless their hearts...), but down here in the Deep South, there’s a little rusted-out truck that refuses to back down. The Banned Wagon isn't your average bookstore on wheels. It’s a rolling rebellion, offering stories, dreams, and truths some folks would rather be silenced.
In Alabama, we’re in the thick of the fight over what stories get told. So, we built The Banned Wagon to put banned books back in people’s hands and to educate them about what’s really inside them by selling banned books exclusively and by holding events and workshops that strip away fear with the power of education and truth.
Our goal is simple: to spread the knowledge those in power don’t want us to have. Because we aren't afraid of knowledge. Around here, we believe it belongs to everybody, and we’ll keep rovin' around The South with a truck bed full of banned books until it does.
The Wagon's Roots
Out on our little pecan orchard in Alabama, a 1940 Ford pickup is finding new life. Her paint may be faded and her frame a little dented, but to us, there’s nothing more beautiful than something weathered by history. We see more than just an old truck; we see a story worth continuing. So we’re giving her a second chance, building shelves into her bed one board at a time, and filling them with banned books. Here in the South, where the fight against knowledge is fierce, she felt like the perfect vessel: stubborn, steady, and unafraid. Soon, she’ll be rolling the backroads of Alabama as a bookstore on wheels, putting banned and challenged books into the hands of the people who need them most.
